If you’re getting tired of the androgynous heroes series like Final Fantasy spews out, Geralt is going to be a nice change of pace. Here is a guy who you are not going to see hanging around Tidus or Vaan. He’s more likely to be banging Ashe or Rikku or Yuna, in as unlikely as that seems. Dude pulls more trim than a bonzai tree yet he looks like they blasted the ugly tree out of the air and it fell right on him before they pulled the rest of the ugly forest on him.
Right now I’m playing it with the mouse mode and I can tell you right now that mode pisses me off. Basically, the mode either forces you to play an ackward game of hunt and click or hold down the mouse for minutes on end while you move Geralt around. Combat’s also a click and miss event. Thankfully I’m doing my first run in easy. I’ll update you on Medium and Hard later on.
So far, the story’s pretty mundane, if non-cliched. Geralt’s out looking for a few enemies to kill, a few women to bang, and a few gold coins. This isn’t a Superman so sweet sunshine comes out of his ass. If you want his help, you’re going to turn over the gold. Think Haddock, minus the raging alcoholism (well, sort of; a few times he drinks himself dizzy and sick. I don’t think he’ll be turning up at any AA meetings).
At this point I’d give it a 7/10. I don’t think I’d go with the 9s and 10s I’m reading about, but I’ll give it a little more time.

Metal Gear Solid: the essential collection.
Just about the only problem that I have with this so far is including Metal Gear Solid on it’s PS1 format. That means that you’ll have to go hunt down a PS1 save card if you don’t have one. You can check them out on Amazon. Gamestop, however, was a total bust in this regard. I understand them wanting to keep this collection at $30, but I don’t think there would have been that much of a complaint if they bumped up the price $15 and included a memory card if they were going to go this route.
But that’s just a minor thing. Right now I’m rolling through Metal Gear Solid and loving it. I’ll have more of a review later on.

So far, what I have seen of Firefox 3 on Windows I definitely like. Trying out the Linux version so far and seeing how it goes.
Probably the big thing won’t be so much the program itself as it will be the plugins. I have several different plugins that I rely on (ScribeFire, del.icio.us, Sidebar, etc) and those will need to come over. On the other hand, you have to wonder if the plugins are the reason why Firefox has been slowing down as of late.

I’m getting back into programming a bit, and I’m mixed about all of the “Hello, World” programs that I see out there. While I understand what most of them are there for, it seems a little dull to get somebody started out in a programming language. Not to mention most of them that I see out there are console based, and aside from the nix world, who really likes using the console.
So, I’ve started out with a “Hello World” on Lazarus that does a little bit more. For one thing, it takes user input and does output as well. Note that this was compiled on Linux. There’s nothing that shouldn’t be cross compatible but YMMV.Hello World on Steroids

Two weeks and getting ready for those two tests I feel like I’m back in school sweating like a hog. I don’t know how much good that they will do eventually, but I have to try something to get myself back into the game again. My big area seems to be partitioning and hardware, two areas that I am definitely going to have to bone up on.

With all the hubbub going around about the Playstation 3, now’s an excellent time to stock up on some great games for the PS2. Prices are dropping, and some of the games can still bring you some excellent hours of enjoyment.
Take, for instance, The Bard’s Tale , which I found for $9.98 while searching through EB Games. Anybody who’s played for any time at fantasy games knows the stock characters. The roguish outlaw, the mysterious old man who knows far more than he should; all of these and more are lit up like a bonfire in this game. Think of this as a Baldur’s Gate which doesn’t take itself all that seriously.
Graphics are par for the course, but what really makes this game is its humor. The story isn’t all that bad (a bored bard gets himself involved in yet another mindless quest, but this time with far more than coin on his perverted mind), and the graphics are par for the course. And at 10 bucks, it’s not going to set you that far back either.

The problem on this one is that it doesn’t stop to let me enter a string.
// project created on 5/7/2007 at 7:29 PM
using System;
namespace csHelloHowAreYou
{
class MainClass
{
public static void Main(string[] args)
{
Console.WriteLine(”Hello World! What is your name?\n”);
String sr = Console.ReadLine();
Console.WriteLine(”Nice to Meet you,” + sr);
}
}
}
